Provence mirrored in its legends

Title of the thesis: Provence mirrored in its legends Keywords: legend, myth, tradition, folklore, Provence, anthropology Abstract: The subject of the bachelor's thesis is the French region Alpes-Côte-d'Azur and its legends.The first part is focused on the region itself from several aspects. There is the geographical location, the climate and the typical products of the said region. Furthermore, a part of the thesis consists of the history of the region spreading from the antiquity until the middle ages. A very significant part is that of the language environment of Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur. The legends, which are sorted into the historical development of the region, are then individually analyzed.

Abstract: This bachelor thesis proposes a summary of French gastronomy as a social and cultural phenomenon. The first part focuses on the history of French gastronomy from the Middle Ages to the end of 19th century with emphasis on the development of gastronomical literature and particularities of every period. The second part deals with contemporary situation of French gastronomy, with gastronomical constests and gastronomical celebrities. The third part presents the regional cusine of Provence, which means its ingredients, methods and traditions. The aim of the thesis is to present French gastronomy and to put it into the cultural framework with the accent on its importance for the French society.

Revitalization of the Regional Language in Provence by the Medium of Calandreta Schools Richard Vacula (Abstract) This thesis focuses on the role of bilingual Calandreta schools in the process of maintenance and revitalisation of the regional language in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region, France. It is based on empirical research undertaken in form of questionnaires and directed interviews in the place of two existing Provençal Calandretas, Gap and Orange. A sample of the local population and respondents from the area of the two schools has been included in the research. We have studied linguistic behaviour, attitudes towards regional education, and the picture of the schools and the language in question. The results suggest that the public is inclined towards the essentials of the language being taught, however, less so towards bilingual education. The results also show that the potential of the schools observed lies rather in their pedagogical methods. The strong pressure of French is noticeable even on the grounds of the schools. The use of Occitan in everyday communication situations is then somewhat rare. The regional language is noticeably associated with the school environment and is connected with specific contexts. The thesis deals with the demographic development in the southeast region of France called Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. The demographic development is focusing on the period from 2004 to 2014. The thesis deals with demographic structure of the region, demographic processes such as death rate, birth rate, nuptality and divorce rate. The theoretical part describes demography as a science, explains demographical sources and more characterised demographical processes. The practical part analyzes demographic events and compares them with metropolitan France. Finally it predicts indicators till 2016 using method of equalization of time series and the trend line.
